Welcome to the University of Massachusetts Medical School Neurology Residency Program.
The Department of Neurology was established by founding Chair, Dr. David Drachman in 1977. He recruited the first faculty and created a department with many of his own personal attributes. A master clinician and caring doctor, founder of the Alpha Omega Alpha chapter at UMASS, he provided and expected the highest clinical expertise and the compassionate delivery of holistic patient care. As a pioneer in Alzheimer’s research, he emphasized scientific investigation and discovery in neurological disease and encouraged clinical and translational research among faculty. A brilliant teacher and much loved father figure, he had a strong commitment to furthering not only neurological education but true individual mentorship.
His spirit continues to influence the department and is embodied in our residency program that is committed to the development of the next generation of academic neurologists, who are expert clinicians, inquisitive neuroscientists and dedicated educators.
We encourage you to explore our website for more detailed information on the different and unique aspects and strengths of our program.
