Endowments at the University of Massachusetts Medical School create permanent support dedicated to scientific discovery and teaching.
Endowments can help to enhance existing programs or support promising new programs that might otherwise go unfunded. They are also powerful in attracting and retaining the most talented and sought-after researchers, physicians and educators, which in turn help to attract the brightest and most accomplished students.
For the donor, an endowment creates a lasting link between the donor or honoree for whom the endowment is named and the continuing achievements of the program that the endowment supports.
Endowments are invested by the University to generate annual income in perpetuity for the purpose specified by the donor. Only a portion of the annual return generated by each endowed fund is spent, so that the principal continues to grow.
At UMass Medical School, we offer several types of endowed funding options:
Donors may create an endowed fund now through an outright gift, or in the future through a bequest or life income gift, such as a charitable remainder trust. For more information on establishing an endowed fund, please contact the Office of Advancement at 111-111-20 or [email protected].
